Why Do We Calles PeraPiña?

That is a question that I get ask a lot. Why it is call Perapiña, when pear has nothing to do with the juice, there is no pear in the recipe, and that is true. If you might know or might not know Pera is Pear and piña is Pineapple. But what is the chemistry in this juice to be call like that? I ask my mother that question so many time when I was a child my self - Now Im answering the same questions to my children 😅. To answer your question if you have that question ☺️, PeraPiña is call like that because when you combine pineapple peel and rice, the mixture gets a taste like pear juice but in a renovate version. Meaning if you make pear juice it will not taste good as this, if you mix the pear with rice, it will not give you this amazing taste either. Believe I have try! The interesting fact is that you don't actually use the pineapple but the peels of the pineapple 🤭. Now that we have this covered lets make Perapiña!

PeraPiña - Pineapple with Rice Juice!

Ingredients:

  • Pineapple Peel and Heart

  • 1 Cup of Rice

  • 2L of Water

  • 1 Cinnamon Stick (Optional)

  • Sugar at your Preference

Cut the pineapple peels and the heart into pieces and wash them in running water. You can use leftover rice, if the rice is already cooked, place it in a colander and pour water lightly to remove the oil.

Boil the ingredients except the sugar. Add water as needed. It will turn out 1 1/2 - 2 liters.

When you have softened the shells and the rice has the texture of thick cream, turn off, remove the cinnamon stick. Blend, strain and sweeten. Chill in the refrigerator or serve with ice.
