My Journey with Poshmark: The Good, The Challenging, and Everything In Between

poshmark 101

I’ve been on Poshmark since 2015, and what a ride it’s been! I love the platform, but I have to admit, selling on Poshmark has become increasingly challenging over the years. Let me share my experience and insights.

The Closet Experience

Let’s start with my closet. It’s pretty basic—minimal decoration and easy to navigate. I’ve always prioritized function over flair, and I think that works for me. Posting items for sale is straightforward, but the hardest part for me is taking pictures. Beautiful images are essential for your items to stand out, but finding the right lighting and space can be a struggle. Overall, while posting is simple, capturing that perfect shot can feel like a daunting task.

Making Sales: The Real Challenge

Here’s where things get tough. Making sales is no easy feat, especially if you’re not a social media influencer or don’t have a closet full of high-demand brand-name items at competitive prices. Sharing your closet is crucial, but the time commitment is overwhelming. I often find myself sharing my closet all day long, which can feel a bit ridiculous.

Poshmark has introduced a promotional feature where you can pay weekly to boost your visibility. But if you’re struggling to make sales in the first place, it’s hard to justify the expense. My closet mainly features accessories, luxury purses, and makeup, and while I do make a sale here and there—typically one or two a week—it’s not as much as I’d like.

Shipping Limitations

Shipping is another area that could use some improvement. Poshmark only offers priority mail, which is $7 regardless of the item size. For small items, like jewelry, this can be quite steep. I’ve often found myself in situations where the shipping cost almost outweighs the price of the item, making it hard to attract buyers.

The Social Side: Parties and Live Shows

As an Ambassador Level 2, I’ve participated in Poshmark parties, but I’ve had little luck. The same goes for live shows, especially "Sell Together" events. Most participants are sellers, not buyers, and many purchases seem to be driven by giveaways rather than genuine interest in the products. I’ve bought items just to support hosts or enter contests, which can feel disheartening.

Tools and Bots

To help promote my closet, I’ve tried using bots like OneShop, which costs about $45 a month. While it’s a bit steep, I haven’t found another tool that offers the same range of features. I’m open to suggestions if anyone has alternatives that are effective and affordable!

Despite the challenges, I still prefer Poshmark over other platforms like Mercari or Depop, where my sales have been virtually non-existent. I appreciate the community and the opportunities to sell, but I do wish for some improvements, particularly in terms of visibility and shipping options.

Overall, my journey with Poshmark has been a mix of ups and downs, but I’m still committed to making it work. Here’s to hoping for a brighter future for all of us sellers! If you have any tips or experiences to share, I’d love to hear them!
